IOWA SENIOR OLYMPICS HALL OF FAME AWARD


The Iowa Senior Olympics Hall of Fame Award was established in 2006 (the 20th anniversary of the Iowa Senior Olympics) to recognize and honor outstanding athletic performances, as well as outstanding contributions made to the success of the Iowa Senior Olympics by athletes, Board members and volunteers. The award will be presented to not more than 5 individuals in the initial year and not more than 3 individuals in each year thereafter. The award may be granted posthumously.

Eligibility requirements:

1. Iowa resident

2. Athlete, Board member or volunteer in the Iowa Senior Olympics for at least 7 years

3. Athletes must have won at least 25 gold medals and 40 total medals in Iowa Senior Olympics competitions

4. Other considerations (not all required):

- Has exhibited good sportsmanship and citizenship
- Has been a positive ambassador for the Iowa Senior Olympics
- Has volunteered time and/or money to the Iowa Senior Olympics
- Has set a record in Iowa Senior Olympic competitions
- Has competed against at least one other athlete in most events
- Has well-represented Iowa in the National Senior Olympics

Selection process:

A signed nomination form may be submitted by a participant, Board member or volunteer, which will indicate the name of the nominee and the reason why that person should be considered for selection. Nomination forms must be received at the Iowa Senior Olympics headquarters by March 1 of each year. All nomination forms will be reviewed by the Executive Director to verify that the person being nominated meets the aforementioned eligibility requirements. If nominated but not selected, a nominee will automatically continue to be considered for selection in the ensuing years. Qualifying nominations will be presented to the Board of Directors for review and approval before being forwarded to the Selection Committee by April 1 of each year. The Selection Committee will consist of three individuals chosen annually by the Board of Directors, and will include at least one Board member. Successful candidates must receive approval of at least two of the three members of the Selection Committee. Final selections will be submitted to the Executive Director by May 1 of each year. Presentations of the awards will be made at the awards dinner held in conjunction with the following Iowa Senior Olympics competition.
